Box Making

7th December

10am to 4pm £20 + Kit

Choose from a wide selection of boxes using your own fabric to suit your decor or why not make one as a present for your family and friends. Be warned though you may end up with a shopping list from others who want one.

These boxes are useful for bits and pieces or as a sewing box. You can of course use them as an alternative display for your embroidery or Ribbon Flowers - much more useful than a frame! Make some ribbon flowers with Nicola and bring them along to put onto your box.

Classes are suitable for complete beginners and also for those with some experience.

We currently use kits from The Needleworkshop and Cotton Patch as it is easier and more accurate to use pre cut card. Please call Kath to discuss choice of box so we can order ready for the class.

Jelly Roll Quilt

tba

10am to 4pm £20

Have you seen Jelly Rolls and wondered what they are about and what to do with them, well now's your chance to make a quilt using your choice of jelly roll to make this 'quick block' quilt. Jelly rolls are a wonderful economic way of having a full range of fabric to work with and gives you a wonderful scrappy feel to a quilt which you may not attempt if you had to buy so many different fabrics seperately.

For those with a little experience of patchwork the quilt on the left uses a jelly roll for the circles and squares of fabric - I used a layer cake but you can use any fabric to compliment, I then edged the circles with bias tape. The border is created using left over fabric from the background.

The finished quilt is 60" x 60". You will need 1 Jelly roll of 40 strips for the scrappy quilt or two if you want a bigger quilt. For the two tone just collect lots of fat quarters!

If you want to take the ideas further then there are lots of books out there but we love Pam and Nicky Lintott's books and have copies in the workshop if you want to buy one.

Log Cabin Quilt

19th November 2009

10am to 4pm both days £40

This quilt is ideal for beginners as it grows quickly and uses large 'logs'. It can be as scrappy as you want - the more fabrics you choose the scrappier the look. You can also use a variation on a theme and put the fabrics together using Courthouse steps patchwork. If you want to make it slightly smaller then why not use one of those Jelly rolls you have being wondering what to so with.
