Hand Quilting with Lilian Hedley see 2011 programme 3 day course - £90	Lilian is a leading authority on “DURHAM QUILTING” and we commence this 3 day course by looking at a selection of 'Durham Quilts', some antique and some of Lilian's own. For the course you can choose from a variety of projects such as a wholecloth or strippy quilt - cushion, wall hanging, cot quilt or full size bed quilt?
Beading with Colette Simpson Friday 17th September, 29th October 10am to 4pm £25 per day + materials	By popular demand - Colette is back at the Silver Thimble with her wide variety of beaded jewellery. Choose to make a piece of jewellery from a variety of designs - lovely necklace/ bracelet which is bead weaving with flower decoration or why not try her new crocheted wire necklace and bracelet set
Rose Sampler Quilt with Kath 3 day course – Mondays 26th July, 11th October & 17th Jan (FULL) 10.00 to 3.00pm £80 + materials See 2011 programme for new dates	This quilt is made up of blocks which are hand appliquéd in a colour scheme of your choice. You can make a quilt any size you wish – intersperse the appliquéd blocks with traditional quilted blocks, add an appliquéd border and create your own family heirloom. With kind permission of Rosemary Makhan - a copy of her book is included in the price of the course and gives you a choice of twenty different designs to choose from. This is suitable for beginners and experienced stitchers.
Quillow with Nicola and Kath 2 day course - Mondays 9th & 16th August 10.00 to 3.00pm £45 + materials	Quillow – a quilt inside a pillow! Make this quick and easy quilt using either ‘jelly rolls’, ‘charm packs’ or fabrics of your choice before making up into the Quillow.
Kimono Quilt or Wall hanging with Kath 2 day course – Mondays 6th September & 8th November (FULL) 10.00 to 4.00pm £50 + materials See 2011 programme for new dates	This is based on a quilt pattern that Kath did at a workshop a few years ago. We now have permission from Sue Propst to teach her version with a variation added by Kath. This is an ideal quilt for using all those fabulous Japanese fabrics you couldn’t resist but then didn’t know what to do with. This is machine piecing and you will do a different version on each of the two days. You can stop there or make as many blocks to make a wall hanging or a full size quilt as you want.
Hand Embroidery with Nicola Regular Friday Classes 10th Sept, 1st Oct, 22nd Oct, 5th Nov, 26th Nov, 17th Dec 10.00 to 3.00pm £15 per day	Hand Embroidery tutored workshops covering a variety of techniques including Stumpwork (raised embroidery), Textural and traditional embroidery, Crewel embroidery, Silk Shading, Silk Ribbon embroidery, Counted thread work, etc. There will be a different subject on offer for each class if you want to learn a different technique such as embroidered book covers, stumpwork dragonflies, bees and flowers etc or choose to work on a project of your own choice. Embroidery & Quilting Week Tuesday 21st to Friday 24th September 10.00 to 3.00pm £ 15 per day	Celebrate the end of the school holidays with some 'me time'. Try out a new technique, bring your own project or browse our books and samples. The opportunity to stitch with some like minded people without worrying about housework. Come for as many days as you want!
Goldwork for beginners & improvers with Caroline Goodrich 3 day course - Mondays 27th September, 1st November, 6th December 10am to 4pm £90 + materials	Goldwork course teaching a variety of techniques including padding, chipping, laying and more with the use of specialist metal threads and kid leather. Choose to work on either of Carolines designs during the course, one of which is ideal for complete beginners and the other more suitable for those with some experience.
Christmas Week Monday 25th to Thursday 28th October 10.00 to 3.00pm £15 per day	This is the week to get prepared for decorating your house or table or for making gifts for family and friends – if you can bear to part with what you have made! Including Snowmen garland, Crazy chicks door stop, Jester gift bags, Celtic Tree wall hanging, Table runner, Ribbon Flower & Wooden Heart gift, Santa’s washing line and more!
Ribbonwork Flower Heart with Nicola Monday 18th October 10.00 to 4.00pm £30 inc materials	Using nothing more than a simple ‘running’ stitch, Nicola will show you how to create lovely flowers and leaves using a variety of ribbons. Create an arrangement to adorn a wooden heart and finish it with lace and beads ready to hang. Ideal as a christmas gift or room decoration.
Sampler Quilt Course with Nicola and Kath FULL - See 2011 programme for new dates	Learn how to make this lovely Heirloom Sampler Quilt during this 6 session course. You will complete a variety of ‘blocks’, each teaching you a different technique and design before quilting and finishing your quilt. Ideal for beginners or improvers - different blocks available for different skill levels.
Tassel Making with Nicola Friday 12 th November10.00 to 4.00pm £25 + materials	Nicola will show you how to make a lovely tassel in the day. You will learn how to cover a wooden mould for the tassel top, wire a skirt and make the suspension cord. Why not make one in Christmas colours for a gift or to decorate your room in time for Christmas.
Jelly Roll Quilt with Kath Saturday 13th November 2010 10am to 4pm £25 + Materials	Have you seen Jelly Rolls and wondered what they are about and what to do with them, well now's your chance to make a quilt using your choice of jelly roll to make this 'quick block' quilt. Jelly rolls are a wonderful economic way of having a full range of fabric to work with and gives you a wonderful scrappy feel to a quilt which you may not attempt if you had to buy so many different fabrics seperately. Why not look for a Christmas jelly roll to make a christmas quilt or table runner.
Ghost Images with Pat Archibald New dates 27th/28th November 2010 10am to 4pm £75	We held this workshop in the summer and it was so popular we couldn't accommodate everyone so Pat has kindly agreed to take the workshop again. In the two day workshop you will create one of two designs. You will learn to create a background with a curved seam using Lynne Edward's Wavy Border Ruler and then learn in easy stages how to create translucent images using layers of sheers and nets. Pat also discusses how to do more complicated 'ghosts'.
Patchwork in Miniature with Kath Friday 3rd December 10.00 to 4pm £25 + materials	If you like working in a small scale, have limited space, want to make dolls house quilts or just like a challenge then this is one for you. Take any patchwork pattern reduce it to i/12th scale and you have a miniature.. Try your hand at traditional hand quilted whole cloths but in miniature. Use cotton patchwork fabrics or even silk – you won’t need much fabric for these quilts!. Come along to this workshop and have fun.
Finishing Day 13th December 10am to 3pm £15	Come and make or finish those last minute gifts for Christmas. Make your embroidery into a box top or cushion.
Weekly workshops in Patchwork,Embroidery & Beading Wednesdays and Thursdays 10am to 2pm. £10 Wednesday evening 7pm to 9pm. £5	Be it Patchwork, Embroidery or beading, you can bring your own project or choose one of ours - either way, Kath and Nicola will guide, coax, encourage, or do whatever it takes to help you get the most from your hobby. Make use of our well equipped, comfortable and spacious studio - classes are small, relaxed and welcoming - a good place to learn in.
Regular Watercolour Painting workshops with Barry Wilton-Middlemass Tuesdays 10am to 4pm £15	These are fully tutored workshops. Our skilled tutor, Barry Wilton-Middlemass, takes you through various techniques using water colour or acrylics. Hands on workshops suitable for beginners or improvers including landscapes, animals. flowers etc.
